Hi, A warm welcome to the AskMyHealth Team and their Readers. It’s my pleasure to answer your questions regarding the new myth blue waffle. I received a lot of questions regarding this sexually transmitted disease (STD) from my students too!

Okay, let me proceed from the basics.

What is a Blue Waffle?

Officially, there is no disease called as “Blue Waffles disease”. It is a hoax created by someone to make the people fear and get benefit from them. i.e Some Website uses this name “blue waffle” to lure people into their site.

Yes, Blue Waffle is a FICTIONAL or FAKE DISEASE!

Blue Waffles Disease

Waffle is the slang name for Vagina. Blue Waffle means a sexually transmitted disease that causes blue appearance on the external genitalia and severe vaginal infection.

Technically, Blue Waffle is a vaginal infection that creates pink tints in and around the vagina. Also, it causes unbearable pain and swelling around the genital area.

Causes

The major causes of the blue waffle disease are the bad sexual habits. They are,

• Multiple sexual partners at one time
• Unprotected one night stands
• Unprotected sex
• Using dirty products while masturbation

Due to the above causes, one may get infected by blue waffles. It is sometimes referred as misspelled blue waffel.

Origin of Blue Waffles

The blue waffles disease hit the online world in the year 2010. But it reached the eyes of the world at 2013 during city council meeting at New Jersey City. The councilperson Kathy McBride spoke about the blue waffles disease in the meeting.

She said that her constituent people (City of Trenton) raised an issue about a sexually transmitted epidemic disease (with the power to turn women’s genitals blue) and how we are going to control that epidemic disease. She doesn’t know that was an April Fools prank. (Source).

Myths about Blue Waffle Disease

Here I listed some common myths about the blue waffle disease and will explain you about those scientifically.

Myth 1: Blue waffles STD

Blue waffles is a sexually transmitted disease (STD). Women are more vulnerable to this disease and it is transferred from woman to man. It is caused by a new unnamed virus. Blue waffles STD is more powerful than AIDS virus.

Truth:

There is no such disease that spreads only from women to men. And till now no unnamed virus that causes blue waffles, STD was detected. It’s totally bogus!

Myth 2: Blue Waffles Disease in Men

Blue Waffles Disease in Men is caused by some genital viruses. Blue waffles transfers from woman to a man during intercourse. The other ways of that disease are due to rough ways of masturbation and practicing sex toys.

If a man is infected with blue waffles, he may feel severe pain and itching in his private area. Also may feel skin disorientation and stinky smell in that area.

Truth:

Truth:

A woman’s vagina cannot turn blue due to any STD. Sometimes due to bruises, the vagina may be turned to light blue. But this will go away in few days.

Myth 4: Symptoms of Blue waffles Disease

The major symptom of blue waffle is the certain excretion from the  vagina.

• The vagina becomes more moisture than usual.
• Blue discoloration in and around vagina.
• Stinky vaginal Secretion.
• Heavy bad odor in the vulva region.
• Severe pain and itching at genital parts.
• Irritation around the vulva.
• Experiencing pain during intercourse.
• Lesions on the outside of the vagina.

Truth:

These symptoms are usual causes for most of the diseases. So don’t confuse these symptoms with blue waffles. There is no such disease, then how you feel these symptoms?

There are no STDs that go only from women to men. (Really now, how would women get them?!) 

• The irritated, stinky and itchy vulva or vagina may be a sign of bacterial vaginitis.
• The lesions may be due to herpes.
• Dark blue discoloration may be caused by the yeast infection or bruises called Lichen simplex.
• STDs do not distinguish between male and female
• STDs may not present with symptoms.

Myth 5: Blue Waffles Disease Pictures/Images (Proof Decoded)

Dr. Amy Whitaker, an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics/Gynecology at the University of Chicago Hospital already gave a detailed explanation about this blue waffle picture in the Women’s Health Foundation blog. Let’s see her explanation,

Blue waffles disease picture hit the online world with the disturbing image of blue tint vagina (highly disturbing image warning) named as blue waffles disease. It has a banner “It is a blue waffle vaginal infection with blue discoloration peculiarly affects female”.

I can easily identify its Photoshop effects. Nothing is true in this image. It is a normal vagina with Photoshopped vivid blue tint.

It is also possible that bruises may cause a bluish appearance to external genitalia, which may result from force, most probably from a sexual assault. But bruising certainly would not be bright blue. Also, NO STDs could cause external bruising.

It appears that there might be some sort of laceration on right labia, a “cut” of sorts, but again it’s unclear in the picture. That may also be of force, or it could be an STD that presents with a lesion on the vulva. But the entire Blue waffles disease picture is FAKE. A bad photoshopped Image to make others fear.
